Fascinating articles and interesting subjects discussed by Mark Engler of Democracy Uprising. The website contains a collection of articles written by him that bring a progressive and internationalist perspective to critical issues facing society. The site rejects narrow specialization and instead seeks to draw connections between militarism, globalization, labor, immigration, Latin American affairs, electoral politics, religion, and the environment.
All those interested can sign up for free to receive new installments of Mark Engler’s work by e-mail, and those wishing to retrieve older articles for educational or organizing purposes can use the site as digital archive. Have a look here.

Well travelled Italian Scots designer Pete Rossi has spent some time this year working at the fantastic Studio Astrid Stavro in Mallorca, where he had a chance to work on some great publishing projects. The Spanish Advertising Annual 2011 ‘Club de Creativos’ is well worth a look; it features exquisite pencil drawn illustrations on uncoated paper stock in the annual’s ‘Ideas’ section, contrasted beautifully with full colour reproductions on coated paper for the ‘Execution’ section.
Pete has also recently returned from a visit stateside, where he was bestowed with the honour of Young Gun 2011 by the Art Directors Club of New York. A truly impressive achievement, doing Scottish design proud — congratulations Pete.

Alex Cornell has kindly asked me to put my thoughts to paper for a new book about creative block and the different personal strategies people use to navigate out of inspiration ruts. The book will aggregate an assortment of useful tactics that many creatives use to spark their creativity. The project was inspired by an article Alex put together last year called Overcoming Creative Block. Contributors will come from all creative fields which include the likes of Paula Scher, Jamie Lidell, Si Scott and Aaron Draplin. The book will be published in early 2012 by Princeton Architectural Press.
